Indoor Air Quality, Allergies, and Asthma

Allergy and asthma control begins at home. Many people with allergies stay indoors when outdoor air is full of pollen and spores. But dust mites, animal dander, mold, and biological particles cause problems indoors. Most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors.

Poor Indoor Air Quality and mold problems have been associated with tight building construction. Tighter, or better sealed, building began in the 1970s in to high heating costs associated with the fuel crisis. Tightly sealed buildings retain moisture, which contributes to indoor air quality problems.
